Terms

Last updated 27 September 2026

What you can make here, what you own when you have made it, and what happens when you buy pictures. Short, because the product is small.

Who you are agreeing with

Transmutiny is operated by Stuart Bourhill, a sole trader in the United Kingdom. Using the site means accepting what is on this page. If you do not, do not use it. Questions go to stuburger@gmail.com.

Making things

A visitor gets 3 free pictures and an account gets 6. Both are lifetime counts rather than daily ones. After that you can buy more.

Everything made in the forge is public. It goes into the public library where anyone can see it and make something new from it, and there is no way to opt out of that. Pictures you upload stay private, and so does anything on a canvas. Do not put anything into the forge that you would mind a stranger seeing.

Buying pictures

Pictures are sold in packs: 30 for $5, or 100 for $15, plus any tax that applies where you are. They do not expire and there is no subscription. Payment is handled by Stripe under their own terms.

A pack is digital content that is available immediately, and by buying you are asking for it to be supplied straight away. Under UK consumer law that means the usual 14 day right to cancel does not apply once supply has begun. If something goes wrong, write to us: a picture that fails to generate is refunded to your balance automatically, and if that has not happened we will sort it out.

Prices can change. A change never applies to a pack you have already bought.

What you own

What you make is yours, to whatever extent pictures made by a machine can be owned, which is an unsettled question in most countries and one we cannot answer for you. We claim no ownership of it.

Because the forge is public, you give us permission to store what you make there, show it in the public library and on the home page, and let other people build new pictures from it. That permission is what makes the library work, and it continues for anything that has already been built on.

You keep whatever rights you have in pictures you upload, and you confirm you are allowed to upload them.

What you must not make

Do not use Transmutiny to make or upload:

  • anything sexual involving children, which will be reported to the authorities
  • sexual content generally, or content that is violent or hateful towards a group of people
  • pictures of a real person made to deceive, or anything passing itself off as a real organisation
  • anything that infringes somebody else’s copyright or trade mark
  • anything illegal where you are

We can take anything off the public library, and can close an account that keeps breaking these rules. If we close your account for that reason, unused pictures are not refunded.

What the pictures are

Pictures are made by a machine learning model, and that has consequences worth stating. Output can be wrong, strange or not what you asked for. Two people asking for similar things can get similar results, so nothing here is unique to you. Output may resemble existing work, and we cannot promise it does not infringe anything. Whether you can register or sell what you make is a question for the law where you are, not for us.

Availability

This is an early product run by one person. It can break, change or go away. There is no uptime promise, and features can be added or removed. If the service shuts down, anybody holding unused bought pictures will be refunded for them.

Liability

The service is provided as it is. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, and our total liability to you is limited to what you have paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot legally be limited. If you are a consumer, your statutory rights are unaffected.

Law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and its courts have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer living elsewhere, you keep the protection of the mandatory law where you live.

Changes

These terms can change, and the date at the top says when they last did. Carrying on using the site after a change means accepting it.
